Why we still cut on a Sunday

The edit is the only part of filmmaking that rewards being unhurried. A note on empty rooms and the cut you find at 4 p.m.

Our edit room is a converted storage space above a printing press. On Sundays the building is empty, and the room becomes something else.

We started cutting on Sundays by accident. A deadline pushed us there; the quiet kept us. With no calls, deliveries or reason to check the clock, the film gets our full attention.

“The edit is the only part of the process where the film tells you what it is. If you interrupt it too early, you only hear your own idea.”

— Arjun Das

Protect one stretch of time each week with the door shut. It is slow. It is also the only way we have found to hear the film over the noise of making it.
